A proud city, full of light and the unmistakable presence of the Atlantic, A Coruña is hospitality, Art Nouveau architecture, Medieval streets and the best food.
A Coruña is a city with close ties to the sea, since it was first founded. It is one of the most important ports in northern Spain, with a long tradition of fishing and trade. From its esplanade, you can contemplate the powerful Atlantic Ocean, take in the beautiful city beaches and stroll out to one of Galicia’s icons: the Tower of Hércules.
Here, at the end of the world according to the Romans, you’ll find nature, cuisine and architecture to experience the city with all five senses.
A Coruña is known for its sunsets. On Avenida de la Marina, you can watch the sun and the Atlantic waters reflect off the glass façades of the homes.
These glass enclosures were created in the 19th century to take advantage of the sunlight and keep out the wind and rain. Each one has its own style. Although most are Art Nouveau, you’ll find different architectural trends in each enclosure.
In the Ensanche and Pescadería neighbourhoods, outside the old city walls, the bourgeoisie of A Coruña left its mark on the city by building majestic Art Nouveau homes.
In A Coruña, this style also adopted the traditional glass enclosures, filling them with colour and life. Nature-inspired decorations combine with wrought iron to create a version of Art Nouveau that fits the personality of the city.
