One of the best ways to get to know Margarita Island is through its museums. The island offers several educational spaces in different areas: marine fauna and flora at the Marino de Margarita Museum, history and archaeological remains at the Nueva Cádiz Museum, Venezuelan art at the Francisco Narváez Museum of Contemporary Art, and folklore and traditions at the Pueblos Margarita Museum. Choose your favourite and kick-start your learning journey.

Margarita Island honors the island’s tradition with a cuisine based on seafood and fresh fish from the Caribbean Sea, mixed with local fruit such as bananas to give a unique sweet touch. Dishes such as Pastel de Chucho (stingray pie), seafood empanadas and Fosforera (seafood stew), are full of flavours and nuances that change from one meal to the next. And for dessert, there’s nothing better than a dulce de lechosa con piñonate (candied papaya) to round off the meal.

Margarita Island is more than just a paradise of beaches, it is an island of unparalleled natural beauty. We can find places such as the Cerro El Copey National Park, formed by the valleys and mountains to the east of the island, and the Laguna Restinga National Park, a mangrove that connects with the Macanao Peninsula. Both have their own ecosystem of flora and fauna, with protected species finding refuge in the parks.

Being an island, Margarita has several structures designed to ensure maritime security and defend the territory from attacks by pirates and foreign invaders, such as the Pampatar lighthouse, the Fortín de La Galera and the Castles of San Carlos de Borromeo and Santa Rosa.. Further inland is the Plaza Bolívar de La Asunción, a meeting point for numerous festivals, and the Basilica Menor Virgen del Valle, a small temple that houses a beautiful figure of the Virgin. You can’t leave without visiting them.

Exclusive nightclubs such as Green Martini and beach clubs such as the White Beach Club open their doors for you to enjoy delicious cocktails and all-night dancing to the sound of fashionable DJs in the best company and tropical climate. The fun starts when the sun goes down.

Endless beaches
Wild, urban, large, small, isolated, touristy… Margarita Island has a type of beach for every occasion, but they all have something in common: the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea and kilometres of fine sand for strolling or relaxing in the sun.
The most famous of all is Playa El Agua, where you will find an upbeat atmosphere with music, sports and typical island restaurants. For fans of water sports, we recommendEl Yaque, Zaragoza and Parguito, with shallow waters and powerful winds. If you prefer something quieter, you can also visit the beaches of La Restinga, Caribe, Pampatar or Punta Arenas and enjoy a day of endless fun. And if you don’t want to leave Hesperia Isla Margarita, you can take advantage of our direct access to Playa Puerto Viejo. It’s a tropical paradise just waiting to be explored.
